“I’m out for presidents to presidents/I’m out for dead f*ckin’ presidents to represent me”
This song for the Sample Saturdays is “A Garden Of Peace” by Lonnie Liston Smith. It’s from his 1983 album Dreams Of Tomorrow.
The track went on to become the most sampled song in hip-hop history. It was sampled by many artists including Jay-Z for his ’96 underground classic hit “Dead Presidents”, Moncia, Stacie Orroco, O.C., Plies, Mary J. Blige “Take Me As I Am”, ABN, Total and Young Jeezy for current hit “Leave You Alone” featuring Ne-Yo.
Ski Beatz was the first one to sample it. He filtered the bassline, use Nas’s vocals from “The World Is Yours (Q-Tip Remix)” and add drums from A Tribe Called Quest “Oh My God (Remix)”. I gotta give props to the dude for sampling this record.
I’m still spending money from ’88. But if the head right, Jeezy there every night.

[Intro: Blades of Glory sample]
We’re going to skate to one song, one song only
[Verse 1: Jay-Z]
So I ball so hard mothaf**kas wanna fine me, first ni**as gotta find me
What’s 50 grand to a mothaf**ka like me, can you please remind me
(Ball so hard) This s*** crazy, y’all don’t know that don’t s*** faze me
The Nets could go 0 for 82 and I’d look at you like this s*** gravy
(Ball so hard) This s*** weird, we ain’t even spose to be here
(Ball so hard) Since we here, it’s only right that we’d be fair
Psycho: I’m liable to go Michael, take your pick
Jackson, Tyson, Jordan, Game 6
(Ball so hard) Got a broken clock, Rolleys that don’t tick tock
Audemars that’s losing time, hidden behind all these big rocks
(Ball so hard) I’m shocked too, I’m supposed to be locked up too
If you escaped what I’ve escaped, you’d be in Paris getting f**ked up too
(Ball so hard) Let’s get faded, Le Meurice for like 6 days
Gold bottles, scold models, spillin’ Ace on my sick J’s
(Ball so hard) B****, behave, just might let you meet ‘Ye
Chi town’s D. Rose, I’m moving the Nets to BK
[Hook]
Ball so hard mothaf**kas want to fine me
(That s*** cray, that s*** cray, that s*** cray)
[Verse 2: Kanye]
She said, ‘Ye can we get married at the mall
I said, “Look, you need to crawl ‘fore you ball
Come and meet me in the bathroom stall
And show me why you deserve to have it all
That s*** cray, ain’t it Jay? What she order, fish filet?
Your whip so cold–this old thing?
Act like you’ll ever be around mothaf**kas like this again
Bourgie girl, grab her hand, f*** that b**** she don’t wanna dance
Excuse my French but I’m in France, I’m just sayin’
Prince Williams ain’t do it right if you ask me
Cause I was him, I would have married Kate and Ashley
What’s Gucci, my n****? What’s Louis, my killa?
What’s drugs, my dealer? What’s that jacket, Margiela?
Doctors say I’m the illest, cause I’m suffering from realness
Got my n***** in Paris and they going gorillas, huh
[Interlude]
I don’t even know what that means
(No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative)
No it’s not, it’s gross (Gets the people going)
[Hook]
[Verse 3: Kanye]
You are now watching the throne, don’t let me get in my zone
Don’t let me get in my zone, don’t let me get in my zone
These other ni**as is lyin, actin’ like the summer ain’t mine
(I got that hot b**** in my home) You know how many hot b****** I own
Don’t let me get in my zone, don’t let me get in my zone
Don’t let me get in my zone, don’t let me get in my zone
The stars is in the building, they hands is to the ceiling
I know I’m ’bout to kill it, how you know? I got that feeling
You are now watching the throne, don’t let me into my zone
Don’t let me into my zone (I’m definitely in my zone)

All samples cleared! TMZ reports that Jay-Z and Kanye West have settled a federal lawsuit in which soul singer Syl Johnson claimed that Jay and Kanye illegally lifted a portion of his 1967 record “Different Strokes” for “The Joy,” off of their Watch the Throne album.
“The Joy,” which was produced by Pete Rock with West, Mike Dean and Jeff Bhasker listed as co-producers, first surfaced in 2010 as a free digital download as part of Yeezy’s G.O.O.D. Fridays viral campaign.
The suit claimed that ‘Ye attempted to clear the “Different Strokes” sample for his Grammy Award-winning My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy but couldn’t get the necessary agreement in place before releasing his LP.
The song was later included as a bonus track on the deluxe version of Kanye and Jay’s tag-team Watch the Throne LP, but the duo failed to clear the sample, according to Johnson. This isn’t the first time “Different Strokes” has been sampled in hip-hop before: Wu-Tang Clan (“Shame On a N—a”) and Public Enemy (“Fight the Power”) are among the most notable acts to use the record.
Johnson filed his complaint in Illinois federal court in October after archival record label and publisher the Numero Uno Group initially threatened a lawsuit on his behalf. The lawsuit was dismissed last week because the two sides have reached a settlement. No details on the agreement have been made available, however.
